Dr Oz Colonoscopy Ann’s Story
One story is truly life changing on Dr Oz today was with who said seeing the Dr Show saved her life. Her Dad was diagnosed with colon cancer and after 3 years of fighting he passed away. My 50th birthday came, my doctor said I have to go for a colonoscopy but I never went. I really never thought that it would happen to me even though it did happen to my father. Something clicked inside of me when Dr Oz was sitting in that Doctor’s office, the shock that was on his face I said I got to go and I did and when I came out the doctor said “You just saved your life”.
I have a disabled son he is 23 and it is very to think that I could leave my family and I don’t want to die like my Dad.
Dr Oz asked her what it was like to go through this experience and she said it was very scary because she could have been like her Dad who didn’t know the symptoms and died. She said face your fears and go for the colonoscopy. Ann is now Cancer Free.
Dr Oz Ellen’s Colonoscopy Story
Ellen put off a colonoscopy despite a family history of Colon Cancer she was equally afraid of the process and the outcome so Dr Oz took her to his doctor, Dr Jonathan LaPook and Dr Oz stayed by her side.
Ellen is 45 years old and hasn’t had a colonoscopy mainly because she was frightened to death of finding something. When she hears the word colon cancer she hears the word death, her grandmother passed away from colon cancer, her mother’s both uncles had colon cancer, her Mom was diagnosed with precancerous polyp and has 3 sisters and all 3 have had a colonoscopy and she is just to scared to go.
Dr Oz called Ellen ad told her he would be with her and hold her hand through the procedure. Dr Oz asked her what was her biggest fear and her response was “What If there’s something wrong, my family, my kids and my husband what happens to them”.
Dr Oz took her by the hand and walked in with her and was with her through the colonoscopy. Ellen really began to panic as she was on her to prep for the procedure. Dr Jonathan LaPook talked her all the way through the colonoscopy telling her the colon lining looked good as well as the blood vessels it ended up that Ellen had 6 polyps found during her colonoscopy. Ellen said every time she heard him say he found a polyp she got so scared and thought this is it, it’s over.
Dr LaPook told her all those polyps were benign, out of those 6 polyps 3 of them were adenomatous polyps which are precancerous polyps which could over time time become cancer.
Dr LaPook said that fear and embarrassment always trump over logic and that is why people don’t get a colonoscopy done. He went on to say that Katie Couric did the first public colonoscopy which lead to a 20% increase in colonoscopy screenings done.
