In the last ten years new medications Gleevec that target cancer cells directly are exciting doctors and patients worldwide.

Yet despite all these success’s the overall death rate from cancer has dropped only 5% from 1950 to 2005. But some doctor’s now believe were entering a new era in cancer prevention where you not just your doctor play a major role.

Dr William Li one of our countries leading cancer researchers is at the forefront of this revolutionary approach. Dr Lee says “That for doctor’s prevention is the holy grail that were trying to spread the gospel on. I ask the question what can we add to our lives that could actually boost our bodies defence system against cancer. I see the answer to cancer, I know it’s possible to beat cancer at it’s own game.”

Dr Oz Pancreatic Cancer Hidden Risk Diabetes

Dr Oz Hidden Risk For Pancreatic Cancer Diabetes For Women Over 40
– For physicians this absolutely the most feared cancer Pancreatic Cancer. If you have pancreatic cancer it is really hard for doctors to find it and very little we can often do about it once we do find it, so prevention is absolutely essential.

DIABETES – 80 million people are diabetic or pre diabetic, diabetes is a shocking risk factor now being identified with pancreatic cancer. Dr Lee said the type of diabetes that increases the risk for pancreatic cancer is called type two diabetes, and this kind of diabetes we do have high blood sugars where insulin is also high because our bodies tissues aren’t able to respond normally to insulin.

When cancer is in the pancreas it is a bad problem says Oz because you don’t get pain you don’t get symptoms. If you had a small tumor in the pancreas it could change based on whether you have diabetes. The insulin stimulates the growth of the cancer cells which then causes the liver and pancreas to get sick, the liver then turns a different color, greenish and yellowish and you then get jaundiced in your eyes. You get jaundice and you don’t get any pain, jaundiced eyes could be a clue for many many reasons. Diabetes increases the risks for other cancers as well, liver cancer, bladder cancer – the same way it grows fat it will grow other tissues says Dr Oz.

Dr Oz Hidden Risk For Colon Cancer

Dr Oz Calcium Deficiency Hidden Risk For Colon Cancer In Women Over 40
– Calcium Deficiency. Calcium deficiency is found in a lot of people, fewer than 15% of women over the age 40 get enough calcium in their diet. Dr Oz asked Dr Lee to explain the role of calcium, especially in some cancers and in this case colon cancer.

Dr Li said calcium actually binds carcinogens in the colon, in fact it helps us excrete toxins out of our body, rather than leaving them there in the colon to dwell and cause cancer and other problems as well.

Dr Oz says we all have cancer, we all have cells that could become big problems but our immune cells are smart they find find the cancer cells seek them out and kill them. If you don’t get enough calcium those cells begin to grow out of control and the cells reach a point where there is no turning back.

Dr Oz calcium recommendation is 600 mg a day with 400 mg magnesium, 1000 iu Vitamin D – Dr Oz’s Daily Calcium Cocktail. By taking this calcium cocktail we can empower our immune system to fighting colon cancer.

Dr Oz Head And Neck Cancer Hidden Risks

Dr Oz Hidden Risk For Head And Neck Cancer Advanced Gum Disease – Periodontitis

Dr Li Periodontitis And Gum Disease Flossing Everyday – For women over 40 the increase in the risk Periodontitis increases because of low estrogen, particularly after menopause. When you have Periodontitis it makes it a lot easier for virus’s and bacteria to get into the soft tissues of our head and neck. It’s that infection and inflammation that sets the stage for cells to turn into cancers. If you look at people who have Periodontitis, and look at the saliva doctors find a protein that actually grows blood vessels that feed cancer cells.

Dr Oz says this is why it is so important to brush and floss everyday!

Dr Oz Ovarian Cancer Hidden Risks

Dr Oz Hidden Risk For Ovarian Cancer Women Over 40 Diet High In Processed Meats – Dr Lee said what processed meats commonly have are preservatives like nitrates. Those things can be converted in our body to carcinogens, carcinogens damage our healthy DNA and we have damaged DNA it makes it much more likely cells can become cancerous.

Dr Li said it doesn’t take much processed meat as little as 1 to 3 slices of processed meat per day and thats enough to increase our risk of cancers of the esophagus, stomach, colon and pancreas.

Your package of processed meats will say right on the package “sodium nitrates”. Dr Oz said it’s not the grass fed beef that he is concerned about, it’s the processed meats he’s concerned about especially when it comes to cancer issues.

Dr Oz Breast Cancer Hidden Risk Dense Breasts

Dr Oz Dense Breasts Hidden Breast Cancer Risk For Women Over 40
– A woman with dense breasts has 5 times the risk of breast cancer compared to women you have mostly fatty breasts.

Dr Li said the only way you actually know dense breasts is with a mammogram. It doesn’t matter what size or shape your breasts are your doctor should tell you if you have dense breasts or not. If they don’t tell you you should ask!

Understanding if you have dense breasts you will you appreciate that you have a reason to keep looking. When there is a cancer in a dense breast it is hard to find, and more visible in a breast that isn’t dense. The inability to see a cancer in dense tissue can be augmented with ultrasound and other techniques.

Dr Li said that one study has shown diet can actually influence the density of your breasts specifically a low fat high carbohydrate over the course of a couple of years lowers the density of your breasts. Another thing is after pregnancy your breast density will go down.

Dr Li went on to say that the key to women over 40 you should really do a monthly self breast exam and make sure you don’t skip any routine scheduled screening tests because you really need to know this and what the answers to your breast density. Conventional Mammography has a hard time seeing through dense breasts, but there is a special kind of mammography called digital mammography, digital mammograms that can be combined with ultrasound and MRI and that can see right through that breast tissue.
