Nancy’s Story:
Nancy is a wife, a mom and a grandmother who watched Dr Oz and took notes and most importantly she acted says Dr. Oz.
Nancy said she wasn’t feeling well and said she knew something just wasn’t right. I was feeling very bloated and within about 3 or 4 weeks my stomach had gone from a size 6 pants to a size 12 and looked like she was about 8 months pregnant. Nancy’s doctor kept testing her for urinary problems and had gone 3 or 4 times for urinary tests. She said she watched the Doctor Oz Show and Dr. Oz had this young girl on and she was telling her story about how her doctors told her she urinary tract infection, irritable bowel symptoms and the list went on. Nancy said after having heard all this it was like the world opened up and her symptoms were my symptoms.
Dr Oz said to get an ultrasound immediately and that is what Nancy did. A week later Nancy was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She went to say when you hear something like cancer, no matter what kind of cancer it is your biggest fear is “Will I Survive It”.
Nancy said if she had not seen that Dr Oz Show she would most likely not be here!
On stage Dr Oz said to Nancy you did what so many people don’t do – “You Questioned Your Doctor” and asked her why.
Nancy said he kept diagnosing me UTI’s, and when it began she thought that could be it, urinary tract infections. But after a week and taking medication and nothing was changing and it was getting worse, then she knew there was something more to it. You are supposed to trust your doctor and you believe he is doing the right thing and you keep following orders and his direction.
Dr Oz asked Nancy “after all those months of being told she had a urinary tract infection, when you actually found out you had Ovarian Cancer how did you feel”.
Nancy – “When I watched your show and saw the symptoms, at first I was relieved and had something to work with, but then it was very scary. I was going to have a diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer Possibly, it was very scary”.
Dr Oz: “What was the treatment like”?
Nancy: “I had a complete hysterectomy about two weeks after I diagnosed, 6 sessions of chemotherapy for stage 3 Ovarian Cancer, and the surgeon said it was a fast growing Cancer”.
Dr Oz said he wants everyone to do what Nancy did, what she did more than anything else – more than having paid attention to what Dr Oz said she paid attention to her body. You trusted your gut, you talked to your physician, and when it didn’t jive with what she felt you kept pushing even though they weren’t listening you kept pushing.
Dr Oz said it’s the most important thing he could ever say on this show because you have that knowledge in you, all we got to do is let it out and Nancy’s case is a great example, if you know the warning signs of Ovarian Cancer.

Dr Oz said these are the classic signs to look for and Nancy had all 6 of those signs and it was still misdiagnosed. Dr Oz said as much as he wished they had all the answers, and apologized to Nancy for Doctor’s misdiagnosis’s all the time, and it their job to find them but it’s the partnership that saved her life because she made it happen and applauded her for that.
1. Bloating or you feel your belly increasing in size from all the fluid in there paralyzing your gut and swelling you up.
2. You feel discomfort, pain in your pelvic area or your abdomen.
3. You will have a different kind of appetite, you will either stop eating earlier because you will feel full or you won’t have any appetite at all.
Dr Oz said if you have any of these symptoms for two weeks or more you must see a gynecologist and insist on an ultrasound keep pushing and shoving especially if you feel something else is wrong to you figure it out.
Pap smears alone do not detect ovarian cancer, that’s not what their designed for and their not going to help you. Ovarian cancer is a silent cancer because the signs are sneaky and subtle said Dr Oz. It’s sneaky but you can find it.
Dr. Oz said other conditions can cause those same symptoms so you don’t always have Ovarian Cancer when you have these problems but it’s the only way we actually can find them in time.
