As Dr. Oz said today he has dedicated his career to one organ, the heart. There are 3 things about heart disease that your doctor may not being telling you and these 3 things could save your life. This month Dr. Oz has teamed up with Family Circle Magazine for a story on a heart disease.

Christine talked with Dr.Oz about her blood pressure and told him it is kinda high and for the last 6 months she has had to check it at home everyday and the numbers are getting higher.

Dr. Oz 3 Biggest Risk Factors For Heart Disease

Dr. Oz Heart Disease 3 Dangerous Mistakes we could be making with our health.

1. Take Your Blood Pressure On Both Arms: The first thing your doctor may not be telling you about heart disease is your taking your blood pressure the wrong way. Dr. Oz shows Christine the right way to take her blood pressure and asked the studio audience “How many of you have had your blood pressure taken on both arms?”

Dr. Oz said taking your blood pressure on both arms is a big deal, lots of times your blood pressure can be telling you little things about what is going on inside the body, the blood pressure may not be the same. That’s a big insight and if you check your blood pressure once a month like Dr. Oz suggests you do and if you’re hypertensive check it more regularly, every so often check it on both arms. If you have a blockage in the artery in one arm, your blood pressure is going to be lower in one arm as apposed to the other arm. Sometimes you are born with arteries that aren’t made normally.

Christine’s blood pressure was 191/123 for her left arm, and the blood pressure for her right arm was 179/114. He told Christine the good news is the numbers are close enough, they don’t have to be identical that she didn’t have a problem inside her body, the blood vessels are connecting to each other correctly, but he was very concerned about this high number.

He told her if she is checking her numbers at home-the numbers that are slowly killing her, but not doing anything about the numbers, it doesn’t make any difference if she is checking them and he asked her what she was doing to get her blood pressure numbers down, and she said going to her doctor.

Dr. Oz said physical activity is the first step in getting those numbers down!

Dr. Oz Lower Cholesterol Number With The Right Fats

The second thing your doctor isn’t telling you about your heart disease is your focusing on the wrong Chloesterol number, the number Oz cares about and everyone should care about is your LDL chloestrol level, the lousy cholesterol carrying amount of protein. Its this big fatty protein thats carrying around cholestrol and bumping into everything spewing it everywhere.

Your LDL cholestrol level which is suppose to be under 100 and Christine’s cholesterol number was 204, so again like asked you before whats your game plan with you cholesrtol? She says she is going to exercise intensely and I’m going to do it for myself and my children.

Simple little things you can do to lower your cholestrol with the right kinds of fats – Olive Oil works very well, you also want to have healthy grains and high fiber foods because they keep your cholestrol in your intestinal system and help prevent it from getting into your bloodstream, plus nuts, granola, and oatmeal work very well.

Dr. Oz Fasting Blood Sugar Numbers

The third thing your doctor is not telling you about with regarding to your heart is that if your are a pre-diabetic person your at higher risk for heart disease. Oz asks Christine what are your blood sugars? She replies the last time had been tested I was 125 and was diagnosed pre-diabetic.

Dr Oz said to Christine “let’s talk about this for a minute, lets go over the fasting blood sugar numbers, just remember if your under 100 your are doing good. If your are between 100-125 you are pre-diabetic, if your over 126 your diabetic. If your in this range you have to check your levels regularly.

If you remain in these high numbers there are some tips I can show you to help reduce it, people get high cholestrol numbers and high blood sugars primarly from the sugars they eat. If you eat lots of food that you should avoid instead get food that is high in fiber, whole grain rices, these are foods that stabalize your sugar as oppsed to the packaged food. you have to make it easy to do the right thing in your family, you have to start buying healthier foods and turf the ones with high cholestrol. You have to learn to enjoy exercising for you and for your family.”
