Dr. Oz 4 Reasons Why Sugar Out Of Your House
Dr. Oz Sugar & High Blood Pressure
Dr. Oz: Are You At Risk Of Deadly Diseases Because Of Sugar?
1. Sugar High Blood Pressure -Dr. Greene stated that there is a growing body of eveidence linking to much extra sugars and high blood pressure. If you take away sugar just the amount of sugar in one can of soda a day, blood pressure goes down. In one study they gave 74 grams a day of fructose and the risk of high blood pressure went up 77% in the people who got the extra sugars. Normal nitric oxide levels keep blood vessels healthy and open. Too much sugar in your diet decreases nitric oxide levels, causing blood vessels to become narrow, which causes high blood pressure and an increased risk for cardiac disease.
Dr. Oz asked if sugar pose a bigger risk to high blood pressure than salt does? and the answer was “Yes”. We should be having no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day, about 100 calories depending on our size. Just one can of soda can have 9 teaspoons of sugar in it. The extra added sugar the average American eats is 22 teaspoons, not the recommended 6 teaspoons of sugars. Dr. Oz went on to show what our monthly intake of sugar looked like and it wasn’t good! We are consuming 7 1/2 pounds of sugar per month.
Dr. Oz Sugar & High Cholesterol
2. Sugar High Cholesterol – People who consume too much sugar are more likely to have lower levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, higher levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, and higher levels of triglycerides, or blood fats. This clogs up arteries and blood vessels, leading to heart disease. Dr. Vos said people eating too much sugar increase their risk for cardiovascular disease. Sugar is converted to triglycerides, that’s how we store fats in our body that is called Omentum Fat. Dr. Oz believes that is the biggest cause of high cholesterol in this country, it’s not that we eat it’s the sugar we eat.
Dr. Greene said when we get the extra sugars after just one meal your blood triglyceride levels will shoot up the fat in the blood, and if you do this frequently then your fasting cholesterols can be out of whack with high triglycerides and low HDL the good Cholesterol.
Dr. Oz Sugar & Liver Disease
3. Sugar Liver Disease - Dr. Vos explained that “sugar exacerbates fatty liver disease, so if someone already has a liver disease the sugar can make it worse. That’s probably because sugar stimulates all the production of triglycerides in the liver then out to the blood stream. The similarities between alcohol and sugar is that they’re both carbs, they both stimulate belly fat and they both can cause liver disease, the mechanisms are similar.” A diet high in sugar is believed to exacerbate fatty liver disease. Too much sugar spikes insulin and drives fat into the liver cells, which causes inflammation and scarring, eventually causing the liver to become cirrhotic.
Dr. Greene; “Some researchers believe that Sugar is the major cause of non alochol, fatty liver disease.
Dr Green explains that fatty liver disease is when the liver builds up with fat and the cells stretches and that will cause scaring. Think of it as getting stretch marks on your liver but these are serious stretch marks they are hard in which causes cirrhosis a really bad disease, but usually assocciated with alcohol abuse. Now researchers are thinking that other kinds of problems or abuses example sugar abuse to much sugar can cause actually the leading cause of non alocholic fatty liver disease and cirrhosis.”
Dr. Oz Sugar & Insulin Resistance
4. Sugar Insulin Resistance – When sugar enters the body, insulin opens the door to allow sugar into the cells. However, when there are continuous sugar spikes, insulin becomes less effective. Sugar can’t get into the cells and become “stuck” in the body, producing toxic effects that lead to obesity and the threat of diabetes.
Insulin Resistance.
Dr Greene; “Insulin is the main director of our metabalism in our body, it rises and falls as we eat. If you eat too much added sugars-extra out of balance sugar it spikes and it gets the sugars out of our bloodstream and into the cells where it belongs. The problem is if it spikes too often then our cells become to lose their sensitivity to that, it’s like if you go to too many rock concerts your ears get less sensitive. Our cells get less sensitive to insulin and the average sugar in the blood starts to go up and if it gets to high you have Diabetes.
Some of the biggest complications we have with insulin resistance including Athrosclerosis the harding of the arteries.
Dr. Vos-Insulin Resistance can be bad for your body;
It’s really the things we have been talking about in insulin resistance maybe some of the heart of the problem, because of the sugar resistance that sugars cause links to the fatty liver disease, the belly fat, the increase weight gain, and so the insulin resistance really causes the harm, and can lead to Diabetes.
Dr Oz Artificial Sweeteners
Examine the health risks linked to artificial sweeteners. They’re not always the healthier option.
Sucralose (includes Splenda brand) – It is 500 times sweeter than sucrose, stored in body fats, and does not affect blood sugar levels. Its use is too new to know the long-term effects, but it appears the most promising and is the best one for cooking.
Aspartame (includes Equal, Nutrasweet brands) – Several studies have found it has adverse health effects. This sweetener stays in your body longest, and it cannot be heated – or it turns into formaldehyde.
Saccharin (includes Sweet’N Low brand) – Long-term data suggest it may be one of the safest sweeteners, even if some of the data is not positive.
When purging your kitchen, be on the look out for these names:
- Fructose
- Maltose
- Sorbitol
- Evaporated cane juice
- Syrups
- Xylotol
- Sugars ending in “ol” or “ose”
