The US state of New Jersey has scrapped plans to ban bikini waxes after an outcry from beauty salon owners.
Bikini waxing is a term used to describe the removal of hair visible on parts of the body beyond a typical two-piece swimsuit. The procedure can be painful because it focuses on sensitive areas of the body, sometimes resulting in skin irritation or rashes.
The Cosmetology and Hairstyling Board proposed the move after two women were hospitalised for infections following the procedure of a Brazilian bikini wax; one filed a lawsuit. But officials reversed course after salon owners complained about losing business ahead of the swimsuit season.
Waxing is big business for salons, especially in the summertime when more people head to the beach.
Genital waxing has never been allowed _ only the face, neck, abdomen, legs and arms are permitted, but because the Brazilians bare it all and a Brazilian bikini wax is the big thing when it comes to bikini time.
Officials with the National Cosmetology Association and National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology said they were unaware of another state that has banned genital waxing…..Hmmmmmmm!
Waxing can be dangerous in that the hot wax can irritate or tear delicate skin in the bikini area, resulting in infections, ingrown hairs and rashes, according to skin care experts. Regular bikini waxes would still be allowed.
