Dr. Oz L Tyrosine: Tyrosine Supplements & Tyrosine Foods To Boost Dopamine Levels

Dr Oz Dopamine Diet

dopamine_dietDr. Oz and Dr. Wylde will explain how to control the amount of Dopamine and recognize symptoms so you will know if your Dopamine level is too low. Self control has a lot to do with your brains dopamine levels. LIke a lot of people you may find it impossible, no matter what you try to ignore that “I want to eat more” even when you’re sure you should feel full. Over eating causes a significant loss of dopamine receptor activity (sensitivity to dopamine) in the brain. In other words, many people are overweight because of low dopamine or insensitivity to dopamine.

Research has proven that overeating over the long term causes a depletion of the dopamine receptors in our brains, this in turn leads to an increase in the very same feelings and emotions that lead to overeating in the first place. When you’re overweight, you will have to eat more food to receive the same quantity of those feelings of pleasure than a more slender person would from eating a significantly smaller portion of food.

Dr. Wylde says the good news is that resisting the temptation to overeat will slowly cause more of the dopamine receptors in the brain to reactivate, which will make it easier and easier as time goes on for you to find increased pleasure from smaller amounts of food. Since higher levels of dopamine may reduce your impulse to eat, equally good news is that there may be some supplements that can help you increase your dopamine levels.

In a December 2008 study in the journal “Nutrition & Metabolism,” J. Reinholz and colleagues suggest that your brain uses dopamine to tell your body when to stop eating. Low dopamine levels may also play a role in overeating for people with a genetic predisposition to low dopamine levels.
